OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with a background and experience in cellular and molecular biology to join the Drug Discovery Sciences (DDS) department at Takeda San Diego. This individual will conduct cell culture, clone cDNAs/genes, generate stable cell lines, develop and execute various cellular assays using molecular, cell biology and biochemical methods to support drug discovery projects. The successful applicant should have extensive bench research experience and enjoy a laboratory-focused role in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team setting.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Generate cDNAs, recombinant expression vectors, stable/inducible cell lines by transfection or transduction, and characterize expression and function using various molecular, cell biology and biochemical methods
  • Develop and optimize cell-based assays using biochemical or imaging readouts in a low, medium or high throughput format to meet project requirements
  • Execute in vitro assays to support drug discovery projects
  • Generate, analyze and interpret data in appropriate scientific context, and present data in department meetings and project team meetings
  • Document experiments and results in notebooks and in written scientific reports

EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: 

  • PhD degree in a scientific discipline (no post doc experience required), or
  • MS with 4+ years experience, or
  • BS with 6+ years experience in industry
  • Extensive expertise in cloning, mammalian cell culture, transfection/transduction, siRNA KD, and immunocytochemistry/immunofluorescence is required
  • Expertise with biochemical techniques such as western blot and ELISA is required
  • Expertise in cellular assay development is required. Experience with high throughput assays is preferred
  • Must demonstrate the ability to design, execute experiments and troubleshoot independently
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team setting are required
