As our Associate Medical Director, you will support the Medical Director in leading the Medical Directorate which comprises Medical Affairs, Medical Information, Regulatory Affairs, Quality and Patient Services functions. You will frequently deputise for the Medical Director, leading on various meetings/ projects on their behalf.
As our Associate Medical Director, you will directly/ indirectly line manage circa 19 individuals responsible for new product planning, evidence generation, medical capabilities, medical information and quality.
You will build and embed organisational capabilities, particularly associated with new product planning and real-world evidence generation
In the role of our Associate Medical Director, you will lead and contribute to various ad hoc projects, both within the Medical Directorate and across the wider UK & Ireland business.
Key Accountabilities:
- Develop and maintain knowledge of the company’s key products and therapy areas, with a particular focus on late-stage pipeline, and the structure and workings of the NHS
- Establish and develop strong relationships with key opinion leaders in relevant therapeutic areas
- Line management of: Medical Affairs New Product Planning roles, Evidence Generation Lead role, Medical Engagement Excellence Lead role, Medical Capabilities Manager, and the Quality Manager.
- Work closely with cross-functional colleagues at both Country and Regional level to develop an effective multi-disciplinary New Product Planning Group in order to support the commercialisation of Takeda's late-phase pipeline
- Ensure that the UK/ Ireland organisation has the necessary processes and capabilities in place to deliver timely evidence generation projects which support the needs to Takeda's evolving portfolio
- Provide medical oversight for submissions to NICE, SMC and AWMSG for pipeline medicines.
- Working closely with the Medical Director, continue to develop and implement a 'people strategy' for the directorate in order to recruit, retain and optimally deploy talented individuals. This will include creating bespoke offerings such as tailored internal training activities and providing opportunities for individuals to undertake projects / secondments with a development focus
- Act as ABPI final signatory. Supervise the training of potential signatories and act as assessor for final signatory candidates
- Initiate and respond to intercompany dialogue and PMCPA complaints.
- Oversight of the Quality function, which must ensure that appropriate quality standards are maintained across both GDP-regulated and non-GDP parts of the business. Will need to develop a good understanding of modern Quality systems
- Manage a significant budget
Key Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- This role would particularly suit a physician with a background in Medical Affairs who wishes to broaden their experience with a view to potentially taking on a Country Medical Director role in the future
- GMC registered physician with significant clinical experience (Royal College Membership preferred)
- Completion of Higher Medical Training in Pharmaceutical Medicine (preferred)
- Substantial Medical Affairs experience is required. Ideally this will have been gained in more the one therapy area, with a track record of implementing tactics spanning the spectrum of Medical Affairs activities (eg Med Comms, Med Ed, insight gathering, evidence generation, commercial support, reimbursement support)
- Experience of line management along with wider experience of coaching and matrix management
- Substantial experience as an ABPI Final signatory
- Experience designing and delivering observational research projects (preferred)
- Experience launching new products (preferred)
