The summer internship program is 12 weeks in length and offers a unique perspective into a world-class pharmaceutical company. Our internship program also provides you the opportunity to network with people at Takeda through various planned events and activities.

The Global Product & Launch Strategy (GPLS) group is Takeda’s global commercial organization; our vision is to unlock the full potential of Takeda’s pipeline and global brands by building product strategies that bring transformative benefit to the lives of patients. This role will be in the Global New Products Planning team, which is part of the Rare Genetics and Hematology Product and Launch Strategy Unit (PLSU) within GPLS. The Global New Products Team leads commercial input and asset positioning for early pipeline development and business development programs.

Project Outline:

This project will explore the evolving Cell & Gene Therapy landscape and implications for Takeda. The key output of the internship will be the creation of disease-area level deep dives on rare diseases indications in rare metabolic or hematology. These deep dives will include:

  • Summary of disease burden (morbidity, mortality, unmet need, and current standard of care)
  • Competitor landscapes
  • Profiles on key cell & gene therapies within indication
  • Synthesis of key takeaways and insights for Takeda Rare Genetic and Hematology gene therapy commercial strategy

As part of this project, you will work with key cross-functional stakeholders from multiple Takeda functions, including Drug Discovery, Clinical Sciences, and Commercial. You will present the final work and lead a discussion on implications for Takeda.

Please indicate if you are particularly interested in focusing on either rare metabolic or hematology disease areas.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills; he or she also has the ability to work well in teams, effectively manage projects, and present ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Global mindset to grow in a diverse work environment
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Must have ability and passion to understand scientific topics and distill business implications
  • Must be comfortable with ambiguity and have high adaptability
  • Prior work with cell and/or gene therapies is a plus but not required

What you bring to Takeda:

  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis
  • Must be available full time (40 hours/week) a minimum of 12 weeks during the Summer months
  • Minimum GPA 3.0/4.0
  • Undergraduate, Graduate, PhD, MD student with at least one year of university studies before internship. 
    • Biological science graduate PhD or MD student who is interested in learning about commercialization of pharmaceutical products
    • Could also be an MBA student with undergraduate degree in biological sciences
    • For undergraduate students, please highlight any coursework in molecular biology, pharmaceutical sciences, immunology, virology, and business
  • Return to university for at least one semester post-internship
  • Takeda does not provide student housing or housing stipends

Location & Salary Information:

  • Summer 2022 Internship role will be hybrid/onsite based
  • Intern pay rate ranges are from $18/hour to $45/hour, depending on students level in their undergraduate or graduate program and level professional experience
